Senior Landscape Architect (RLA, ASLA)
Nicole Kelly is a senior designer and a licensed landscape architect with over 12 years of experience in the Bay Area. Her strengths as a designer and project manager center around the client-designer relationship, where engaging the owners in a meaningful collaborative dialogue is often as important as managing the fine details of materials selection and detailing. These skills also make her a valuable design team member on large, multidisciplinary projects.
Her project work includes institutional design for Foothill College, UC Davis, UCLA, and the award-winning master plan for restoring historic Foothill College. She has solid construction documentation experience and has developed office standards for CAD workflow and graphic clarity. Nicole is drawn to teaching and mentoring, supervising production and skill development for junior staff but also making time to jury studio presentations every year at UC Berkeley’s Graduate College of Environmental Design.
Nicole earned her undergraduate degree at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and her graduate degree at UC Berkeley. She is a native Californian and grew up in an agrarian community in the Sacramento Valley. She still feels attuned to the cycles and seasons that are key to designing man-made landscapes that will grow into thriving, integrated living places. She is particularly interested in developing her skill as a planting designer and finding ways to meet the firm’s high aesthetic and performance standards within the challenging microclimates and drought cycles of Northern California.
