Architecture and landscape developed together at this new home in Portola Valley (the property is currently under construction). The site is blessed with existing mature Oaks, views of nearby protected open space and Mt Diablo in the distance. These became the organizing elements of the design. The new landscape is defined by sweeping arcs of hardscape fitted to the site’s topography. Floating pavements spring up from the hillside, implying that the new garden is set lightly upon undisturbed grasslands. Bands of native plants and perennials flow around the trees and out towards far off views as infinity edge meadows. A close working relationship with the architecture team resulted in a site where buildings and gardens are knit together by bringing the surrounding landscape right up to the thresholds of the home.
