At this hillside site in Danville, a new home is set within a swath of restored native meadows and chaparral. A long, winding driveway, punctuated by olive and cypress trees, descends through soft, billowing hills to the house, where the arrival court is marked with water basins and a sculpture wall. Passing through an arbor, the visitor enters a shaded courtyard aligned with the breezeway extending from the interior living room. The extensive retaining wall along the driveway is planted in a lush manner, creating a green backdrop to the entry courtyard.
In the private garden beyond the house, the horizontal lines of a pool and bocce court become a simple foreground canvas for the breathtaking view of distant Mt. Diablo.
An extensive fruiting olive orchard was also planted for crop cultivation, with 90 trees providing a beautiful, functional extension of the home garden out into the larger landscape.
