Project Description

The essential concern of this design was to assert a new identity for a nondescript home and garden, transforming the property into a space that is coherent, retreat-like and full of surprises. The new landscaping of this Portola Valley residence makes a bold statement while melding harmoniously into the surrounding oak woodland of this rural peninsular community. A careful master plan and on-the-ground adaptive design transformed a dissonant patchwork of garden areas and complex topography into a graceful series of spaces that facilitate retreat, entertainment and practical uses, while reducing environmental impact.
