Located in Portola Valley, a simple yet bold garden was created for this ridgetop property. The house is nestled into the site with a green roof integrated over the studio. Thuilot worked closely with Feldman Architecture to make elegant transitions between indoors and out. For example, a long cypress boardwalk next to the pool echoes the architectural siding.
The design of backyard is central to the home and to the family’s activities. The site overlooks an open space preserve and views of the natural setting are central to the garden layout. An infinity-edge pool acts as the edge between native coastal vegetation and the formal linear layout of the designed space. Native plants including oaks, manzanitas, and ceanothus connect the site to the larger landscape.
